Try it on a demo thread
Seven threads on a made-up imageboard: animals, knockouts, dance, cooking, Japanese TV, you-laugh-you-lose and a calm one with open-licensed clips. Scroll through them the way ChanTape plays a real thread, before you install anything.
Open the demo boardStart with Animals
Without the extension
- Pick a thread on the demo board. It looks like an ordinary imageboard thread, with a thumbnail on every post.
- Press “Try the player” in the bottom corner, or click any thumbnail.
- Scroll. The wheel, the arrow keys or a swipe move to the next clip. Esc closes it, and opening it again picks up where you stopped.
That’s a preview built into the page, so it only works here. The extension does the same on real threads, with history and new posts arriving while you watch.
ChanTape Chad, free to try here
The paid version isn’t on sale yet. The preview lets you try the parts of it that work on a single thread. Open the gear menu in the player, or use the keys:
- Level loudness (N). Clips are posted at all sorts of volumes. Turn it on, press M for sound and switch between them.
- Skip videos you’ve seen, from the menu. Watch a few, come back to the start, and they’re skipped.
- Filters, from the menu: hide file names containing a word, or anything below 480p or 540p.
- Mini player (P). The video shrinks to a corner and the thread scrolls under it.
- A–B loop (B for start, again for end) and frame by frame (, and .).
- Replies (R): the posts answering the one you’re watching, with a Play button for replies that have a video.
Whole-board feeds, watched threads and a history of 5,000 videos need a real board, so they aren’t in the demo. See everything planned and join the waitlist.
With the extension
- Add ChanTape to Chrome or Firefox.
- Open any demo thread and click the ChanTape icon in the toolbar.
- Press Play in the popup, or “Just enable” to turn the site on without starting. The browser asks for access to chantape.com only. It’s the same step you’ll use on vichan, LynxChan and jschan imageboards.
- Watch. From then on the ChanTape button sits in the corner of the thread. The preview button steps aside while the extension is running.
You can turn the site off again from the same popup: “Disable on this site”.
Where the clips come from
The posts were written by us. The clips in six of the threads were posted on imageboards and belong to their owners. They’re here, cut to 20 seconds at most, only to show how the player works. If one of them is yours and you want it gone, write to [email protected] and we’ll take it down.
The “Short loops” thread uses only open-licensed and generated clips: four scenes from Big Buck Bunny (© Blender Foundation, CC BY 3.0), two from MDN’s CC0 samples and six made by us.
